We live in a generation-obsessed society. My parents are constantly trying to prove that they're not baby boomers, and I will never stop squashing Gen Z stereotypes by knowing what a VHS is. We're so tied to these arbitrary categories based on our birth years that didn't exist until the 20th century. Generations mainly exist to give the old an excuse to complain about the young and the young to complain about the old. If you're part of a "bad generation," your flaws can be chalked up to being part of an entitled, lazy, and cruel group of people who all happened to be born in the same 15 years. I'm not ashamed to be in Gen Z, but perhaps I will be once we become the old fogey generation.
